How did Vicki get started in her speaking ministry and what advice would she offer to someone just starting out? |
Vicki started off speaking at small women’s gatherings and retreats and was eventually asked to join the workshop teacher team of a large women’s conference ministry in the mid-90’s. As she allowed God access to parts of her life that had previously been off-limits (Translation: She realized that very few women want to hear from someone who is pretending to have it all together), her speaking ministry exploded. Vicki never claims to be an authority on any subject but rather, a work in progress.
She counsels women who feel they have been called to speak to focus more on the message God has put on their hearts than becoming a “speaker.” She further encourages them to offer themselves to God for His kingdom purposes (Romans 12:1). Start by making yourself available to teach whether it is at a neighborhood Bible Study, a small women’s retreat, or teaching Sunday School at your local church. Few, if any, speakers start off speaking on the platform. Most have their fair share of stories about less than desirable lodging arrangements where the honorarium was a tasteful gift basket.

How did Vicki get started in her writing and what advice would she offer me if I am interested in getting a book published? |
Vicki did not go the typical route that most authors go when getting her first book published. Vicki was originally approached by a publisher to write the trade book adaptation of one of her studies; therefore she knows very little about the dynamics of submitting a book proposal or shopping a manuscript to various publishers. |
What is Vicki currently working on and when will it release? |
Her latest book “Logged On and Tuned Out: A Non-Techie's Guide to Parenting a Tech-Savvy Generation " was released in September of 2007.
"Between Us Girls," the second maga-book in the Between series, will release in June of 2008. Like "Between," this resource is written for "tween" aged girls and will be available at LifeWay stores, lifeway.com and amazon.com. Another resource for parents, "5 Conversations You Must Have with Your Daughter," will release in September of 2008 with an accompanying Bible Study DVD following in April of 2009.

How would I go about starting a “Your Girl” book club in my church or neighborhood? |
Vicki is excited that many churches are using her “Your Girl” book in their book clubs. We are hearing from women who have organized a group of mothers (who have daughters ranging in age from 0-18) to meet weekly and discuss the questions at the end of each chapter. Some churches plan a mother/daughter banquet for the last session where their daughters are welcome to attend. |
